Primark ps love pro foundation porcelain review

Primark PS love pro foundation in porcelain

I've been enjoying Primark's PS love beauty line so I was curious about the new pro range so had to check it out when it came to my local store. There wasn't a whole lot that jumped out at me, but that was mostly because they've gone for "classic" shade choices to begin with and I'm coming down with those so couldn't justify more.

I ended up getting this and the lip primer  (still playing with that) as I can always use another foundation and the shade actually looked pale enough for me for a change. As pleased as I was to find a shade for myself, the selection for deeper skin tones was woeful as is often the case unfortunately.

I've been enjoying this foundation for everyday. It's medium coverage and applies nicely, I suspect it may be a little bit drying in the winter but it's actually been great with the muggy weather we've been getting. Not the longest lasting in the world but gets me through my work day without too much trouble, 9 - 5 in an office for context. Nice, everyday foundation that's a good colour match, sure what more do you need for 4.00?

MUA Luxe velvet lip lacquers in Tranquillity, Dash and Unity

MUA Luxe velvet lip lacquers in Tranquillity, Dash and Unity

I'm going through a bit of a liquid lipstick kick lately, like everyone else in the makeup wearing world, so I picked up these 3 to try. They are £3 each from Superdrug or the MUA website.
Tranquillity is a pale brown/peachy toned nude, sort of colour I'm never sure suits me but I've been drawn to the last few years. Dash is a reddish-brown sort of marsala colour which I know is more likely to suit me as I love those shades and weare them all the time. Unity is a grey-ish lavender-ish colour, quite hard to describe but I love it. I've been really into these sort of cool-toned, almost corpse-y colours lately. The definitely don't suit me but I really like them. Feel vaguely industrial or something, very much don't mess with me shades.

MUA Luxe velvet lip lacquer in Tranquillity

I've worn Tranquillity to work twice now, first time over Cappuccino lip liner by Rimmel, which is a lot darker and cool toned. They actually matched really nicely, looked a bit like the 90's had thrown up on me but I often look like that so it wasn't a problem. Second time was over Chocolate lip liner pencil by Collection, a bit warmer toned and not as dark but still complimented the lipstick very nicely.

MUA Luxe velvet lip lacquer in Dash

I've worn Dash to work once so far over an old wine lip liner by Barry M. It's a little darker then Dash but similar in tone so they worked well together. Very easy colour to wear for day or night as its classic but could also be quite vampy.
These liquid lipsticks held up OK through work. They lasted pretty well through tea but couldn't withstand my usual cheesy soda bread at tea break, it is very greasy though so I didn't expect them to (I love lipstick, but I love my food more). They both respond well to being topped up with another lipstick after eating, no flaking or peeling off the lips. I find it works best if the lipstick used isn't too matte as that can cause drag. You want a little bit of slip so the colours blend.

MUA Luxe velvet lip lacquer in Unity

I haven't worn Unity out yet. Its very much a statement lip and I haven't been to an event it would be suitable for recently. I drink red wine when I'm out so I tend to stick to dark lipsticks so it doesn't look strange as the night goes on. I have worn it in the house to check it out though and its amazing! I've tried it over periwinkle violet lip liner from Kiko, a cool toned violet colour, and over cappuccino by Rimmel and it looks great over both. Cappuccino definitely makes it more of a greigy colour while Periwinkle violet brings out the violet (surprise surprise).

Its lasting power is on a par with the other shades though it is more obvious when it starts to wear off. Not sure what lipstick I'd top this up with, leaning towards Taupe by Kiko or Mauve by Pure Colour at New Look. Both of those have similar cool, grey casts to them but they're a bit dark which isn't ideal so I'll be keeping an eye out for something suitable.

These are quite drying on the lips but that is to be expected with this type of product really. They can change slightly depending on the lip liner used which I like, I may have a go at mixing colours and see how that turns out. I'll keep you posted on that. All in all if you don't mind the drying sensation you get with liquid lipsticks these are definitely worth a go at a bargain price.

Barry M Coconut Infusion nail paint in Laguna and Skinny Dip

Barry M Coconut Infusion nail paint in Laguna and Skinny Dip

I am a chronic nail biter so I always have my nails painted. Been a big fan of Barry M for years now, they have always offered the best colour choices and now they offer some really interesting finishes and things as well. So when I saw these nail varnishes popping up on social media I wan intrigued, I hate putting base coats and stuff on as I find nail varnish peels off my nails really easily if its to thick so I don't like all the layers. I was a little sceptical about the claims of helping your nails but reviews said they dry quickly and are opaque so I figured I'd give them a go.

Wasn't blown away by the colour choices (there's a lot of brownish nudes) but I can see why they'd want to get these shades right as there is a lack of neutrals for different skin tones. Hopefully they'll expand the colour range in the future. I prefer grey toned nudes to brown but that's just me.

Coconut Infusion nail paint in Laguna

This applied really well and was opaque in 2 coats which is unusual for such a light colour, and gave a high shine finish. Though I have always found blue nail polish to be the easiest to work with for some reason so that may be part of it (I know that doesn't make much sense but there we go). I got 6 good days of wear out of this before there were noticeable (thought still not major) chips, that's impressive as I'm kinda rough on my nails. I really like this shade to as I have a thing for blue and green nail colours.

Coconut Infusion nail paint in Skinny Dip

Skinny dip is the lightest shade they have at the moment and it's a fairly good match for my skin tone. These sort of light colours can be very tricky to get right, they're often patchy and need multiple coats to stop the nail colour showing so it's a proper test for the formula. I was less impressed with this upon application then the blue, not as opaque after 2 coats but it was quick drying and fairly smooth which is unusual for an off white shade. I'm probably being a little picky over the opaqueness of it, I don't think anyone else would notice because they won't be examining my nails that closely. Gives a great high shine finish and I was asked if I was wearing gel nails with this colour on so very pleased with that. This colour wore for about 4 days before major chips and regrowth annoyed me enough to make me change it but it could have probably gone another day.

I'm happy with these. I don't know that they're actually making my nails any better because I'm not using them exclusively, but I enjoy them anyway. They are quick drying, hard wearing and the usually tricky pale colours I picked are quickly opaque which is a big plus for me. I'll be picking up the green shade bikini and the lilac/pink surfboard next I think.

makeup gallery quick dry nail colour in silver storm 33

Makeup gallery quick dry nail colour in silver storm
I hadn't planned on posting about this nail polish but I was surprised at how impressive it was.
I smudged my index finger while this was drying and didn't bother fixing it as I was sure it would all have chipped off in a day or 2. Metallic shades are notoriously tricky to get right so it seemed unlikely this would be any different.
Imagine my surprise when 3 days later that smudge on the index and a little bit of tip wear on the middle and ring finger are the only problems. Admittedly I'm off work for a few days so I haven't been typing and generally being as tough on my nails as usual but that's still pretty impressive.

Silver storm, 2 coats nothing else on nail
Makeup Gallery is Poundland's own makeup range and the compulsive crap collector in me can't walk past the stand.I picked this up with a few other shades as part of a 3 for 2 offer. So considering this polish was less then a pound I'm very pleased and looking forward to trying out the other shades.

primark velvet matte lipstick crayon collection

Nude 1, red 3, wine 4, purple 6, nude 6, pink 7, d purple 7, natural 9, fuchsia 10, l brown 11 and blush 12.

I think it's fair to say I have too many of these. They're a perfect example of my problem with make up buying. I have 11 of these, some in colours I'll never wear, others shockingly similar and 2 actually the same shade. But I got a couple to try when they first came out, they were cheap and cheerful and right up my street. And then I loved them  (along with the lip liners, my word those are lovely) so whenever I called into Primark for anything I'd have a look and see if there where any new colours. I call it the Pokemon effect.

These are the nude shades I have;
 nude 1, nude 6, natural 9, l brown 11 and blush 11

I accidentally bought 2 of the shade nude and although they have different numbers the colour is the same. It was actually 1 of the first shades I bought (if not the first) and I really like it so I'm happy to have a spare. I like all of them and while they are similar I've managed to convince myself that there are enough differences to justify all of them.
My favourites of these would be nude, which puts me in mind of the Bourjois lip velvet in nude-ist on me, l brown, which is very 90's and has a slightly grey-is tone to it (makes me look like a corpse but I love it), natural and blush. The last 2 are nice but just a wee but lighter than suits me. Blush is quite pastel and 60's so I may try it with a heavy eye look

Onto the not so nude,
03 red, 04 wine, 06 purple, 07 pink, 07 d purple and 10 fuchsia

As you can see these all fall into the red/pink/purple category. My favourites are wine, it just looks so rich on and lasts so well, purple, I'm a total suckered for a purple lip, and pink, a gorgeous easy to wear hot pink. D purple leans a little brown on me for some reason, it's a lovely shade but probably the trickiest to pull off due the intensity. Red and fuchsia apply well but are just the wrong tone for my skin unfortunately. I may try them over a dark lip liner like cappuccino by Rimmel and see how it looks.

I find that these last well but I snack and drink tea all day so I have to be realistic about lasting power. With the nude shades it's less obvious that they're wearing away but the more vibrant colours it can be noticeable. I tend to bring a lipstick in a complimentary colour with me when I wear any long lasting lip colour, in crayon or liquid lipstick form, and top up from that as need be.

All in all I really like these. I think they're pretty similar to the Maybelline Colour Drama lip pencils but much cheaper. The only downside is that being Primark they may not stick around for long so if you see something you like you should grab it straight away.

Small Primark haul

Foundation, lip primer, lip oil, velvet matte lip crayons, nail varnish, matte liquid lipstick

Called into primark to see if they had the new ps pro line in, though I only ended up getting a couple of pieces from it as you can see. I picked up the foundation in the lightest shade (porcelain) which I'll stick a review up for soon but first impressions are good. It's a good colour match for me with decent coverage and it doesn't stick to dry patches.
I'm not 100% sold on the lip primer yet. I usually line and fill my lips in with lipliner before I put on any colour and when I tried to apply 1 over this it didn't really work. Made the lip liner stick and clump quite badly, I'll have to play around with it a little more.
The lip oil I got out of curiosity, I'm not really a 1 for glosses or anything on my lips but it looked interesting and I figured it couldn't hurt. The glitter isn't too obvious once applied and while it is thick it doesn't feel unpleasant on the lips. Unfortunately the stopper at the top of the container came loose and it's a bit gloopy. I'll use it but I wouldn't get it again.
The velvet matte lip crayons are an old favourite, I've quite the collection now and I'm in the middle of an overview of the range so I'll cover these in that. What I will sat is that I'm actually doubling up on these as I already have 1 in the shade nude and I wanted a back up so that should give you an idea about how much I like them.
The nail varnish is just a gorgeous colour and the bottle is so dinky. It goes on nicely, dries quickly and lasts about 3 days without chipping, not bad for 30p is it?

Last but not least is the matte liquid lipstick in red. I'm really enjoying liquid lipsticks at the moment and this has been getting some really good reviews so I thought I'd give it a go. I'll stick up a review after I've given it a proper trial run.
So that's that, as I mentioned I'll post reviews and swatches of the different bits as appropriate.
Cheers

Payday haul

Hey guys,

So I did a bunch of overtime a little while ago and to celebrate when it came through I went a little bit mad on Superdrug's website. There were a few bits and pieces I'd been looking at but could never seem to find in store. I was able to order before 6 and get it delivered to my local branch the next day which I was fairly impressed with as some companies don't offer this service to Northern Ireland. And then I also picked up a few bits in store and in boots, it was mostly stuff I've been really wanting to try and was waiting until I was a bit flush with cash to pick up so I don't feel too bad about my indulgence. (Full disclosure, I rarely feel bad about indulgence. Life is short and should be enjoyed)
Moving on, here's  what I actually got. This is just a run through as there's loads so reviews will follow after I've used everything for a while.

http://www.superdrug.com/Real-Techniques/Real-Techniques-Ultimate-Gift-Set/p/590400

The item I was most excited to get was the Real Techniques Ultimate Gift Set, this is a set of 10 Real Techniques brushes and a really spacious train case. If I remember correctly this was £99.00 before  Christmas and went down to £49.99 in the black Friday sales. When I looked online there was £5 off in the superdrug sale and members got a further 10% discount meaning I paid £34.99 for the lot. Talk about a bargain!

I've used Real Techniques brushes before so I know the quality will be good and the bag has a huge compartment to hold makeup. I'm reorganising my makeup storage at the moment so really happy with this.
As for the rest of my haul
MUA Luxe velvet lip lacquer in Unity and Tranquillity £3 each
MUA lip scrub £3
MUA clear lip liner £1
MUA eyeshadow palette Undress Me Too free gift with purchase usually £4
Makeup Revolution Ultra Aqua Brow Tint medium £3
Makeup Revolution Go Pro mini brush set £4.95
Palmers Cocoa Butter formula concentrated cream £1.99 (not pictured)
That was everything I ordered from them online, we're not done yet! I then picked up in store and in Boots (bit hazy about what I got where if I'm honest. Bad Rosa, naughty)
MUA Luxe mettalic liquid lipstick glint
Rimmel exaggerate lip liner addiction
Rimmel exaggerate lip liner under my spell
Rimmel 1000 Kisses lip liner cappuccino
Collection lip liner clover pink
Collection lip definer natural pink
Barry M lip liner 16
Barry M lip liner 17
Vichy lip balm

Wow. That was a lot to get through, go you if you stuck with it.

lip of the day Sleek Matte Me Velvet Slipper

Heading into work for a bit of overtime today, as it's dress down it seemed a good time to test out the darker of my new liquid lipsticks from sleek, velvet slipper.
You'll have to excuse the photo, I'm not sure about the selfie camera on my phone, I think it makes my cheeks look huge.
I like to apply liquid lipsticks, all lipsticks really, over a lipliner so I lined and filled my lips with honey berry by essence. It's a bit light but with the opacity of the liquid lipstick it's not a problem. Application is a little slap dash, especially in the corners of my mouth but I think we can safely say that's user error rather then a problem with the product.
I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to these formulas having only really used the bourjois version before but it was easy enough to apply. I did get a line on my top lip when I pressed my lips together while it was drying but it was easy to smooth out with my finger. These do dry down fairly quickly so don't hang about when applying or you could have problems. We'll have to see how it lasts the day but so far I really like it. The other colour I picked up is shabby chic which looks like it'll be better for work so unless it all goes horribly wrong today you can expect that later this week.
Edit: So this wore fairly well. I checked it at 11.30 after 2 cups of tea, felt a little but gritty but didn't look patchy or anything. I actually think it looked better at this point, I'm not entirely sure why though.
However by 14.45 I'd eaten 2 packets or McCoy's crisps and drunk a can of coke which was more then it could handle. To be fair, greasy crisps are the downfall of most long wear formulas as I understand it. However I refuse to stop grazing all day so I've learned to manage my expectations with lipstick.
All in I'm really pleased with this, I love the colour and it wore pretty well. Good purchase all round I'd say.

First Post

Hey guys, how's it going?

So, I have far, far, far too much make-up. Way more then I'm ever going to be able to wear really. But I really enjoy buying it and having it and looking at it and all that stuff. So I figured if I started a beauty blog, I'd at least have a good excuse for all of it.

I'm strictly a budget girl, cheap and cheerful is the order of the day and I'm going through a bit of a thing for weird lipstick colours so you can expect a fair few of them at least until my next obsession hits.

Hope you enjoy reading it.
