MUA Luxe velvet lip lacquers in Tranquillity, Dash and Unity

MUA Luxe velvet lip lacquers in Tranquillity, Dash and Unity

I'm going through a bit of a liquid lipstick kick lately, like everyone else in the makeup wearing world, so I picked up these 3 to try. They are £3 each from Superdrug or the MUA website.
Tranquillity is a pale brown/peachy toned nude, sort of colour I'm never sure suits me but I've been drawn to the last few years. Dash is a reddish-brown sort of marsala colour which I know is more likely to suit me as I love those shades and weare them all the time. Unity is a grey-ish lavender-ish colour, quite hard to describe but I love it. I've been really into these sort of cool-toned, almost corpse-y colours lately. The definitely don't suit me but I really like them. Feel vaguely industrial or something, very much don't mess with me shades.

I've worn Tranquillity to work twice now, first time over Cappuccino lip liner by Rimmel, which is a lot darker and cool toned. They actually matched really nicely, looked a bit like the 90's had thrown up on me but I often look like that so it wasn't a problem. Second time was over Chocolate lip liner pencil by Collection, a bit warmer toned and not as dark but still complimented the lipstick very nicely.

I've worn Dash to work once so far over an old wine lip liner by Barry M. It's a little darker then Dash but similar in tone so they worked well together. Very easy colour to wear for day or night as its classic but could also be quite vampy.
These liquid lipsticks held up OK through work. They lasted pretty well through tea but couldn't withstand my usual cheesy soda bread at tea break, it is very greasy though so I didn't expect them to (I love lipstick, but I love my food more). They both respond well to being topped up with another lipstick after eating, no flaking or peeling off the lips. I find it works best if the lipstick used isn't too matte as that can cause drag. You want a little bit of slip so the colours blend.

I haven't worn Unity out yet. Its very much a statement lip and I haven't been to an event it would be suitable for recently. I drink red wine when I'm out so I tend to stick to dark lipsticks so it doesn't look strange as the night goes on. I have worn it in the house to check it out though and its amazing! I've tried it over periwinkle violet lip liner from Kiko, a cool toned violet colour, and over cappuccino by Rimmel and it looks great over both. Cappuccino definitely makes it more of a greigy colour while Periwinkle violet brings out the violet (surprise surprise).

Its lasting power is on a par with the other shades though it is more obvious when it starts to wear off. Not sure what lipstick I'd top this up with, leaning towards Taupe by Kiko or Mauve by Pure Colour at New Look. Both of those have similar cool, grey casts to them but they're a bit dark which isn't ideal so I'll be keeping an eye out for something suitable.

These are quite drying on the lips but that is to be expected with this type of product really. They can change slightly depending on the lip liner used which I like, I may have a go at mixing colours and see how that turns out. I'll keep you posted on that. All in all if you don't mind the drying sensation you get with liquid lipsticks these are definitely worth a go at a bargain price.

Barry M Coconut Infusion nail paint in Laguna and Skinny Dip

Barry M Coconut Infusion nail paint in Laguna and Skinny Dip

I am a chronic nail biter so I always have my nails painted. Been a big fan of Barry M for years now, they have always offered the best colour choices and now they offer some really interesting finishes and things as well. So when I saw these nail varnishes popping up on social media I wan intrigued, I hate putting base coats and stuff on as I find nail varnish peels off my nails really easily if its to thick so I don't like all the layers. I was a little sceptical about the claims of helping your nails but reviews said they dry quickly and are opaque so I figured I'd give them a go.

Wasn't blown away by the colour choices (there's a lot of brownish nudes) but I can see why they'd want to get these shades right as there is a lack of neutrals for different skin tones. Hopefully they'll expand the colour range in the future. I prefer grey toned nudes to brown but that's just me.

This applied really well and was opaque in 2 coats which is unusual for such a light colour, and gave a high shine finish. Though I have always found blue nail polish to be the easiest to work with for some reason so that may be part of it (I know that doesn't make much sense but there we go). I got 6 good days of wear out of this before there were noticeable (thought still not major) chips, that's impressive as I'm kinda rough on my nails. I really like this shade to as I have a thing for blue and green nail colours.

Coconut Infusion nail paint in Skinny Dip

Skinny dip is the lightest shade they have at the moment and it's a fairly good match for my skin tone. These sort of light colours can be very tricky to get right, they're often patchy and need multiple coats to stop the nail colour showing so it's a proper test for the formula. I was less impressed with this upon application then the blue, not as opaque after 2 coats but it was quick drying and fairly smooth which is unusual for an off white shade. I'm probably being a little picky over the opaqueness of it, I don't think anyone else would notice because they won't be examining my nails that closely. Gives a great high shine finish and I was asked if I was wearing gel nails with this colour on so very pleased with that. This colour wore for about 4 days before major chips and regrowth annoyed me enough to make me change it but it could have probably gone another day.

I'm happy with these. I don't know that they're actually making my nails any better because I'm not using them exclusively, but I enjoy them anyway. They are quick drying, hard wearing and the usually tricky pale colours I picked are quickly opaque which is a big plus for me. I'll be picking up the green shade bikini and the lilac/pink surfboard next I think.

makeup gallery quick dry nail colour in silver storm 33

Makeup gallery quick dry nail colour in silver storm
I hadn't planned on posting about this nail polish but I was surprised at how impressive it was.
I smudged my index finger while this was drying and didn't bother fixing it as I was sure it would all have chipped off in a day or 2. Metallic shades are notoriously tricky to get right so it seemed unlikely this would be any different.
Imagine my surprise when 3 days later that smudge on the index and a little bit of tip wear on the middle and ring finger are the only problems. Admittedly I'm off work for a few days so I haven't been typing and generally being as tough on my nails as usual but that's still pretty impressive.

Makeup Gallery is Poundland's own makeup range and the compulsive crap collector in me can't walk past the stand.I picked this up with a few other shades as part of a 3 for 2 offer. So considering this polish was less then a pound I'm very pleased and looking forward to trying out the other shades.
